Auto Theme Sync

Back Up & Compare
Shopify Themes in One Click

Take a complete copy of every file in a theme — layout, templates, sections, snippets, assets, config and locales — and keep a history you can go back to. A backup is captured automatically whenever you publish a theme, so there is always a copy of what is live. Compare any two themes file by file to see exactly what changed.

Restoring and deploying files back into a theme is pending approval from Shopify and will be enabled as soon as it is granted.

How it works

1. Back up a theme

Pick a theme and press one button. Every file is captured — layout, templates, sections, snippets, assets, config and locales — not just the ones you happen to be editing.

2. Keep a history automatically

Publishing a theme triggers a backup on its own, so the version your customers are seeing is always captured. Identical files are stored once, so a history of daily backups stays small.

3. Compare and find what changed

Compare any two themes file by file with a color-coded diff, or search a backup to see exactly what a file looked like at that point in time.

Features

Full theme backup

Every file in the theme, not just the ones you changed — on every plan, including Free.

Automatic backup on publish

Publishing a theme captures it automatically, so the version your customers are seeing is always in your history.

Diff preview

Compare any two themes file by file. Color-coded unified diffs show exactly what differs.

Backup history

Search a backup, see file sizes and timestamps, and keep as many versions as your plan's retention window allows.

Efficient storage

Identical files are stored once, so backing up the same theme repeatedly barely adds anything.

Restore & deploy

Writing files back into a theme — restoring a backup, or deploying between themes — is pending approval from Shopify. It will be enabled as soon as that approval is granted.

Never lose a theme file again

Free plan included. Back up a theme in one click and keep a history you can always look back at.
